The Scattered Light installation is amazing and available to see until July 24th. It's in St Paul, right below the Science Museum, on Shepard Road where it intersects with Eagle/Old Chestnut. It's free, it's beautiful, it's cool & meditative, and you can still go see it! (Obviously after dark works best.)

* It's blissfully perfect sunny weather, just barely not too hot

* The cat came back :) (He wasn't really missing - just slipped out the door like he's not allowed to)

* My lawnmower was fixed in one day (they said it'd take at least a week)

* Even though the economy sucks (perhaps because the economy sucks) people all around are pulling together and helping each other out

* My blue and yellow irises are blooming

I am taking the hard drive out of my baby NAS with the bad fan and making myself a home media server with that + very old desktop + some other equipment. I'm excited. :)

Most of our house is really clean and we have almost all the pictures up and it's actually quite a pleasant place to spend time in!

My younger boy kitty is bunny soft and, when he thinks I'm upset, he will bring me socks, making muffled little eeps as he does so.

This story about our local movie theater/restaurant chain is full of awesomeness.

It sucks that the need is so great, but it's super cool that two awesome Brooklyn nonprofits are teaming up to provide legal assistance to low-income gender-nonconforming folks.

A positive article about feminism, including the delightful line, "I believe in the radical possibilities of pleasure," appeared in the NYT!

I was soooo stressed this morning from being three days before furlough with eight gazillion things to do. Then meeting with my boss, who told me to leave seven gazillion of them til after furlough and said several times how much she loves working with me and will totally bend over backwards to help me manage work/school in the fall.

No, the one I'm taking the hard drive out of was really what I'd consider a glorified external hard drive, but it was billed as a NAS. Hard drive + enclosure + network jack. I think it would have been great, if the fan hadn't started making really dreadful noises that made me think the hard drive was failing! So I don't recommend the thing that Iomega sells as a NAS, because of the fan problem.

The thing I'm building is 2 1TB drives (mirror RAID) in my old Dell Dimension 2400, with a PCI SATA controller card since it doesn't have onboard SATA. So far I'm looking at Ubuntu Server for the OS, but I also considered FreeNAS (based on FreeBSD). It is being an adventure. :-)

We don't have honeysuckle, because our neighbors already do. Both these bushes grow like blazes, and will get very leggy if not brutally pruned autumn and spring.
