you said something a while ago, that i didn't read (tl;dr) because i have little patience for what's been termed duty fetishism.

it was apparently pretty wrongheaded to start with and in the comments, which you have deleted and then shut down all further commenting on your blog, got flat out racist.

what do you have to say about that?

are you going to apologize? if so, when?

i have some hope that you're sick at heart over hurting people. but it's hard to tell when you're not saying anything.

an apology won't fix things. i don't know if it'd fix anything. but it'd be nice to see.

signed,
betsy,
who until she had a mortgage owned everything you'd ever written and up until oh, early september was recommending one of your books up down and sideways to everyone who'd listen.

(comments from people not on my accesslist screened; everything that's not russian spam unscreened as soon as i'm near a keyboard.)(settings on lj will be set the same as soon as i get over there)

(edited to fix commenting. that's a global, not per entry setting! how aggravating! sorry!)

I was going to use my OpenID to comment so it would be screened, but apparently this entry is set only to allow comments from your access list. Feel free to screen or to leave unscreened as you like.

Which book were you recommending? I'm curious whether it's the same one I would have.

I'm treating this whole thing as a time for me to be quiet and listen to what everyone has to say... at least for now.

I have to admit that one of the frustrating aspects of this was just how much I like "Remnant Population," and how I don't feel like I have a great alternate recommendation that fills the same spot. It's come up once since, and I did still recommend it, but only because the other person I was talking to was someone who I felt was also up on what happened and I could add a note about feeling conflicted about that and have it be understood.

I would dearly love to talk with you about this (but not via keyboard). Can you spare some time Tuesday after the thing?

And, off the top of my head, some reasons why she might not be saying anything:

She's waiting until after she and Nisi talk again

Her worldview has been challenged and she's still processing that

I like that term, "duty fetishism," as it encompasses many things I have problems with. At some point, after (hopefuly) Moon addresses the out and out racist things said, that's also something to drill down on.
