"I used mine as a rug"?

that may be the special level of hell, the one with the people who talk at the theater.

I've often wondered what to do with my prayer rugs. They're pretty nice. They sit in a closet collecting dust right now.

I'm not sure how many Muslims would actually be upset if you used a Muslim prayer rug as a regular rug. Like, I'm pretty sure I've seen actual Muslims do it before. Certainly the people who make/sell them don't care.

I think that this is a Buddhist prayer rug.

Yeah, I wasn't suggesting it was the same thing. I was broadening the discussion to, "Is it bad in general to use a prayer rug of random faith X as a regular household rug, especially if you aren't a member of that faith?"

Well, from my admittedly-limited understanding of Buddhism, it seems like alternate use would be even less of an problem. Non-attachment is a key concept, and getting bent out of shape would be a result of attachment. The ad says it's padded, which indicates to me that the purpose of the rug is to allow enough comfort to spend more time in prayer and meditation -- it's a tool, not a sacred object.

I could, of course, be quite wrong about this.

That would make sense. I know nothing of prayer rugs, but Laos is mostly Buddhist.

I'm not sure why using it as a rug is any worse than, say, using devotional candles as ordinary candles, or reusing the holder to hold random stuff once the candle is gone...
